THE CHALLENGE

Second Harvest Heartland’s work to end hunger through community partnerships took on a new dimension in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. With restaurant restrictions in place, produce wholesalers had to search for new places to donate excess fruits and vegetables.

THE SOLUTION

As one of the nation’s largest, most efficient and most innovative hunger relief organizations, Second Harvest Heartland was able to leverage their unique position in the emergency food chain to make an impact . . . in a totally new way. The nonprofit and their partners mobilized to set up Emergency Farmers Markets across the state, distributing the excess fruits and vegetables to the people who needed it most. CCX Media producers created a video highlighting the changes in the distribution model for social media and marketing purposes.

THE RESULT

CCX Media produced a video highlighting one of Second Harvest Heartland’s agency partners, The Open Door, and their food distribution process at an Emergency Farmers Market. Second Harvest Heartland posted the video on their Facebook page to ask for support from the community and to promote future distribution sites and dates for those needing to find food. The collaboration between CCX Media and Second Harvest Heartland is an example of organizations doing more at a time when people need more.
